Quinto LP de carreira da banda carioca, e terceiro pela gravadora CBS, este disco é fruto direto da paixão das bandas brasileiras pela Beatlemania que tomou conta do país a partir do lançamento do filme “A Hard Day’s Night”, “Os Reis do Iê, Iê, Iê”.
Contando com sua formação mais clássica, que incluía Paulo César Barros no baixo e nos vocais principais, Cid Chaves nos vocais, Carlinhos na guitarra base, Toni na bateria e o próprio Renato Barros na guitarra solo e vocais, os Blue Caps capturaram a energia do Mersey Beat e gravaram uma obra vibrante.
Não por acaso, muita gente confunde este lp com uma coletânea de maiores sucessos. Das 12 canções do disco, pelo menos oito(!!!) fizeram sucesso avassalador nas rádios.
Não é para menos. O álbum mistura cinco canções autorais com sete versões do Rock inglês. Aqui temos “Meu Bem Não me Quer” (“My Baby Don’t Care” do obscuro The Tangs), “Vivo Só” (“For Your Love” do Yardbirds), “Pra Você não sou Ninguém” (“Look Through Any Window” do The Hollies) interpretadas com entusiasmo e energia semelhantes ou até superiores às suas gravações originais. E temos Beatles.
Versionando canções que não entraram para a parada de hits do quarteto inglês como “You Won’t See Me” (Até o Fim), “Run For Your Life” (Dona do meu coração) e “Tell Me What You See” (Gosto de Você), os Blue Caps ajudaram ainda mais na popularização da mitológica banda no Brasil.
Mas seria injusto dizer que o sucesso deste álbum se deve unicamente aos covers. Renato Barros também imprime no disco suas melhores composições até então, incluindo a belíssima “Primeira Lágrima”. A sua guitarra brilhante, com volume no talo e cheia de fuzz, também fez escola. O baixo e os vocais de Paulo César também são espetaculares e comoventes. Dos músicos convidados, o lendário organista Lafayete cria climas de Hammond e farvisa numa profusão de lindas melodias.
“Um embalo…” é um disco rockeiro em essência. É o único disco do grupo a não ter baladas. Não é a toa que se transformou no item preferido dos “assustados”, as animadas festinhas movidas à Cuba Libre da juventude dos sixties.
Lançado no auge da Jovem Guarda, “Um embalo…” passou a ser um álbum referência no ano de 1966. O impacto foi tão grande que até Roberto Carlos convidaria a banda no ano seguinte para acompanhá-lo no espetacular “Em Ritmo de Aventura”.
Renato e Seus Blue Caps ainda gravaram ótimos discos na virada dos anos 60 para os 70. Mas jamais reproduziriam a energia deste trabalho.
Este não foi o primeiro disco dos Blue Caps que tive. Mas ele é sem dúvida o que me fez querer formar uma banda. Ainda lembro de minha primeira guitarra feita de frágil madeira e com sonoridade de isopor colado numa primitiva ponte. Junto com amigos que tocavam baterias de caixas de sapatos e pratos de latas de manteiga, cantávamos estas músicas num fôlego só. Quantas saudades…
