Hoje, ao acordar, recebi uma mensagem do meu velho amigo Jorge, preocupado comigo porque tinha assistido na TV sobre a forte chuva de ontem em Mossoró; mais de 100 mm/m² de chuva, que causaram certo estrago na cidade.
Tranquilizado Jorge (aqui ontem choveu só 2,5 mm/m²), fui conferir em meus caderninhos as maiores chuvas no Sítio Araras*, ao longo dos anos que estou registrando isso.
Desde outubro de 2015, quando comecei a anotar sistematicamente cada chuva, as maiores precipitações foram registradas nesses dias:

Folheando os caderninhos, as memórias voltam à tona. Essa chuva gigante em julho de 2017 foi absolutamente inesperada, pela época e tamanho. Eu estava acampado com Cabeça, a cadela que me acompanha nessas peripécias, pouco distante da ponte de Alto do Rodrigues/RN, última noite de uma aventura de seis dias em canoa.
À tarde já tinha dado para ver que ia chover, assim preparei o acampamento para aguentar a chuva. No começo, principiou a cair uma chuvinha normal, mas com o passar do tempo engrossou muito e tive que guardar todo o equipamento, desarmar a rede e aguentar o pior. Com um arroz e batata já cozinhado e um café quente pronto, ficamos, eu e Cabeça, umas duas horas e meia por baixo da lona dobrada apenas por cima da gente; eu sentado no banquinho baixo e Cabeça num pedaço da lona seca, os dois pensando: será que vai parar quando?
Trovejou e relampejou muito, mas não caíram raios nas redondezas do Campo K naquela noite; isso creio que foi graças à pitada de boa sorte que a gente nunca deve esquecer de carregar no bolso, partindo por uma aventura.
Baixou de intensidade, afinal, e deu para voltar ao formato “acampamento de chuva” normal, para passar a noite dormindo ao seco na rede, mas só parou mesmo de chover quando deu as dez da manhã do dia seguinte.
Quando, nesse mesmo dia, terminada a aventura voltamos em casa, encontrei o registro da chuva no pluviômetro do quintal e me dei conta do tamanho da chuvarada que a gente aguentou lá no mato, à beira do rio. rss

Pois é, meu amigo Gilberto Cardoso, vou lhe contar a origem do nome de Cabeça. Vou começar dizendo que atualmente, vivem comigo três cadelas: Branquinha, Cabeça e Olhinho, coletivamente apelidadas de “branquelas”, pela cor do pelo, claro.
A Branquinha é a mãe das demais. Quando Branquinha deu cria, uns anos atrás, nasceram dez filhotes, entre machos e fêmeas, e todos receberam um nome provisório. Nomes bobos, como Peludo, Gordo, Pirata, Soneca etc.
Olhinho tem uma mancha escura redonda num olho que lhe dá a aparência de ser menor… um “olhinho”; Cabeça, um dia, comeu uma abelha e, por reação à picada que deve ter levado, ficou toda inchada, com um cabeção desse tamanho… rss
Para concluir, dos dez filhotes da Branquinha, arrumamos um responsável humano apenas por oito deles; Cabeça e Olhinho ficaram comigo e os nomes provisórios ficaram juntos e para sempre.
Muito bom, Jack. Fiquei a imaginar a cena. Perguntei-me que razões o teriam levado a nomear seu cão de Cabeça. Provável razão: ele é seu guia nessas sempre surpreendentes aventuras. Duas cabeças pensam melhor que uma e imagino os esforços que vocês fazem para se manterem em sintonia nas decisões a serem tomadas. Um aprendeu a confiar no outro. Lembrei do que disse Schopenhauer: “A compaixão pelos animais está intimamente ligada a bondade de caráter.”
Não tenho dúvidas de que você trata tão bem seu cão como trata o seu semelhante.
Quando se tem profundidade, a solidão é deliciosa. Você estava circunstancialmente preso, mas lá fora chovia e ecoava em você como uma sinfonia.
