E tínhamos qualidade tão boa ou até melhor do que a maioria deles. Quanto mais adentro a obra musical de Babal mais emputecido fico com a muralha potiguar. Pedro Mendes exala música pelos poros. E o Cantocalismo, e o Flor de Cactus. Canções com nosso jeito potiguar. Tínhamos uma identidade musical, sim. Mas passamos batido pelo brasileiro.
Acontece que aquela década foi dominada pela indústria fonográfica, pelo jabá das rádios, pelo poder da mídia televisiva. E quem não estava no Chacrinha ou nos grandes centros, esquece. E assim a música autoral potiguar dos anos 80 permaneceu aqui. E cabe aos mais jovens resgatar porque é realmente excelente.
Hoje a galera chuta o balde pra Rede Globo. Já cansaram de tentar as rádios. E se a muralha permanece, as canções viajam mundos em plataformas digitais e chegam a produtores de festivais, a críticos, aos sites especializados em música, e daí para festivais independentes com milhares de pessoas. E a coisa gira. E flui como nunca houve por aqui.
Eis a diferença. Anos 80 presos no cercado potiguar. Século 21 viajando por fibras ópticas. E o que sempre tivemos de bom agora se torna visível, reconhecido. Esse embromation todo para mostrar que, se não temos a identidade musical local de antes, mantivemos a qualidade e aumentamos a quantidade. E se somos muitos, temos poder. E para ter poder, precisa união para ser mais. E eis que, ano passado, surgiu a Rede de Música Independente de Natal (Remuin) para organizar a bagaça.
Após promover um festival de música dentro da programação do Natal em Natal ano passado, projetos novos estão em pauta. Um deles é o motivo deste post. Trata-se de um álbum duplo, para voltar aos anos 80. Mas como somos moderninhos da Geração Y, é mesmo uma coletânea com nada menos que canções de 44 bandas e artistas potiguares.
Um recorte muito interessante do que temos de mais atual. São dois discos, sendo o Selecta (capa vermelha) com 32 canções de bandas cadastradas no Remuin e mais alguns convidados, a exemplo do grupo de rap Time de Patrão e do confrade Ras Barack. O outro Selecta (capa azul) abrigou 12 músicas instrumentais, não menos sensacional.
